ESMERALDAS    Theobroma cacao

 Bartley, B.G.D. (1993)
Notes on the meaning and origins of clone names. B.G.D Bartley. Personal Communications.

Derivation: ESMERALDAS province.
Location: Esmeraldas province, Ecuador.

Notes:  Bartley, 1993a [BAR93A]. Cocoa type from the North of Ecuador which probably represents the propagation of naturally occurring types. There may have been some adulteration with pure, or at least very nearly pure Venezuelan Criollo.

Reported lack of infection with Witches Broom was probably due to the absence of the disease in the area rather than resistance.
