Notes on the meaning and origins of clone names. B.G.D Bartley. Personal Communications.

Derivation: Unknown.

Notes:  Unknown code.

Bartley, 1993a [BAR93A]. There are no records of any selections made in St. Vincent nor is it likely that this is the origin of the material since the island was selected as a quarantine site (for a brief period) because there was virtually no cocoa grown there. It is unlikely that the material originates in Jamaica since no GC identifiers were recorded in the Jamaican accession list (Fagan and Topper, CACAO (Turrialba), 3 1954)

GC 7 was introduced to Miami from Indonesia in 1957 (CACAO (Turrialba), 3, 1958). It is possible that GC 7 is an error for the CC 7 from Surinam reported by Lems as being the parent of SP 1. It is possible that GC 29 is an error for GS 29, however the clone GC 29 at CATIE has green fruits whilst GS 29 has red fruits.
