CARMELO 1-59 [MEX]    Theobroma cacao

 Hunter, J.R. (1961)
The status of cacao variety improvement work in the Western Hemisphere. Cacao (Costa Rica) 4: pp. 1-16.

Derivation: el CARMELO farm.
Location: El Carmelo farm, Tabasco, Mexico.

Notes:  Hunter, 1961a [HUN61A]. Selections from finca "El Carmelo" in Comalcalco, Tabasco. Outstanding trees identified as C 1, C 5, C 6, C 11-C 15, C 33, C 39, C 44, C 67.

Bartley, 1993a [BAR93A]. Presumably the same material as C [MEX] from El Carmelo farm, Mexico. It is unclear whether the material in CATIE is derived from budwood or seed. The only CARMELO described by CATIE (Morera et al., 1991a [MOR91A] ) is said to be Forastero and therefore not Criollo as suggested in the original report.
